Resident Artist Program

The Resident Artist Program, founded & managed by Sam R Ross, was in operation at Windmill Arts from 2018-2016.

The Resident Artist Program developed and supported emerging arts organizations (dance, theater, performance art, circus, clown, play development etc) whose mission was to create new works, but who did not have the financial or administrative resources to continue to grow. These organizations were provided physical space in a state of the art black box theatre and multi-purpose white box studio at Windmill Arts, along with artistic guidance, technical, and production expertise and marketing support to grow not only their artistic visions but also their patron and financial base.

Over its 8 years of existence, the Resident Artist Program grew from supporting two Resident Artists to supporting ten Resident Artists on an annual basis. In its final year of existence, Resident Artists produced dozens of new works with over 65+ public performances playing to over 3,100+ patrons, and led over 50+ workshops and classes for 1,350+ attendees. Of additional note, with the production expertise provided through Windmill Arts Production, one Resident Artist group - Vernal & Sere Physical Theatre - developed a new work over the span of four years and took the production to an off-Broadway theater in NYC in Fall 2024 for a successful run.
