In 2017, Windmill Arts was born out of a need. That need was to provide professional performance space for developing artists. Access to performance spaces is financially prohibitive to many artists and certainly to the ones just starting out. Windmill Arts was a state-of-the-art performance black box with a rehearsal space/dance room founded in East Point, Georgia in 2017.

Eventually that “need” grew to include not only space for emerging artists and their work but also to provide mentorship, administrative, technical and production expertise. Windmill Arts fostered and grew a Resident Artist Program which ran from 2018-2026. Over its eight years, the Resident Artist Program grew to support 10 Resident Artists annually by providing them with mentorship, administrative, technical and production expertise as they developed and presented new work.

In 2023, Windmill Arts started a non-profit corporation to help manage the Resident Artist Program and to develop its own new work under the brand of Windmill Arts Production. To date, Windmill Arts Production has developed and produced two full length plays (Butterfly and Wolfman), two short films (Fall in Flower and Artist Falls) and a short play and film festival called blueprint which just finished its second full annual festival.

In the summer of 2026, the performance space Windmill Arts was sold to Vesper Theatre whose leadership is committed to building upon the foundation laid by Windmill Arts of supporting artists.
Windmill Arts Production has become a separate producing entity under the leadership of Sam R Ross.
